Bobcat runners finish in top spots at home

Saturday at the golf course, the Thermopolis cross country team took the top three spots at their home meet, the Bobcat Invite. McKenna Bomengen placed first with 21:29, Tahja Hunt placed second with 21:58 and Olivia Weyer placed third with 22:02.

Coach Stephanie Metz said she was impressed with the girls' ability to take the lead in the last mile and keep it, while at the same time improving on their times from the 2016 Bobcat Invite. Bomengen improved over her time of 21:36 from last year, Hunt improved over her time of 22:26, and Weyer improved over her time of 23:22.

Dayna Sandberg placed 22nd with a time of 26:53, and Hudson Roling placed fourth in the boys run with 18:35.

Metz was also proud of the middle school runners, who had some top finishers as well. Dazlynn Hunt took first with 12:57 and Jayda Griffin took third with 13:31. Metz noted Hallie Martinez and Brooklyn Williams had strong finishes - Williams at 13th with 14:27 and Martinez at 14th with 14:28. Kadance Bowman and Elizabeth Peterson also finished close together, with Bowman at 28th with 15:16 and Peterson at 29th with 15:20.

Metz was also excited to see the performance at the Bobcat Invite, as the course will also be used for the 3A East Regionals on Oct. 14.

This week the team will travel to compete at Powell on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m. It is also the middle school conference and Metz hopes to see at least three top 10 middle school finishers.

Additional middle school results include:

Kanyon Gerber 26th 14:19

Ethan Crow 30th 14:37

Jesse Rodriguez 37th 15:05

Karsten Hart 40th 15:17
