Geneva Hanson

Geneva Marie (Gaskill) Hanson passed away peacefully on August 30, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was born in Newcastle, Wyo., on July 10, 1937, to Clinton Owen and Ruth Marie Gaskill. Geneva grew up on a ranch where she learned to work hard and to treasure the people she loved. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1955 and attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, S.D. On May 6, 1956, Geneva married her best friend, Frederick Carl Hanson, Jr. who referred to Geneva as the "love of his life" until his passing in 2014. Together, the couple moved to Thermopolis in the late 1950s where they raised a family, made friends, built a successful construction company, and made a positive contribution to the community they loved.

Geneva was a thoughtful person who loved her family and enjoyed her friends. She took the time to send a card, write a note of encouragement, give a special gift, and help someone in need. She loved traveling, plants and flowers, pretty napkins, teddy bears, taking care of her home, eating cheeseburgers and vanilla ice cream, and her dog, Dusty. She enjoyed being an active member of Chapter AV, PEO and her friends at A Cut Above were her second family.

Geneva is survived by her children, Doug Hanson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cindy (Mike) Haddenham of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson, Jonathan (Stephanie) Haddenham; great-granddaughters, Hannah and Hadleigh; brother, Robert (Barbara) Gaskill; sister, Norma (Paul) Kinnison; and numerous family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Shelly Lynn; and grandson, Joseph Haddenham.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Community Church Community Hall in Thermopolis with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
