Lady Cats host invite Friday, Saturday

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team traveled to Rawlins last Friday and Saturday for the Rawlins Invitational, starting the weekend against Star Valley, Torrington and Cody in pool play.

Although they went 0-8 in pool play on Friday, coach Shannon Hill started some new rotations as the girls headed into the silver bracket on Saturday.

They went head to head with Buffalo first thing Saturday, losing in two, 9-21 and 13-21.

Hill decided a whole new rotation was in order against Lander, which helped, the girls coming out to win the first match 21-10 before losing the second match 17-21. They rallied for the third match, coming out on top, 15-13.

The Rawlins JV team was the third opponent for the day and the girls did well, losing the first match, 22-10 before coming back to win the next two, 21-10 and 15-11.

“The girls ended play on Saturday very well despite a rocky start,” Hill said. “Once we have all of our girls playing consistently we will be able to play better as a team. We need each and every player on the team to be a part of each play. They all play very important roles on our team.

“We have our Bobcat invite this weekend, so it will be nice to play on our home court.”

Mary Ryan had 23 kills on Saturday and Hill said she played really great offence.

Chalk up 45 set assists to Haley McDermott whom Hill says really gets to every ball very well.

Sesi Jensen had a good day on Saturday, too, racking up 15 kills for the day, including four aces on the Lander team.

Kelly Johnson also had a good weekend, putting down 10 kills on Saturday as well as two solo blocks against Rawlins.

The Bobcat Invitational will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon and continue on Saturday at 9 a.m. and will include both varsity and junior varsity action. The freshmen will play in Riverside on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
