Bobcat football opens with Friday scrimmage

The Hot Springs County High School football team will take to the field this Friday, with a scrimmage at Lander. The season will officially open Sept. 2.

Coach Matt McPhie said the team had a solid week last week, with eight practices, and the most positive things he sees is the players' attitude and work ethic. He noted they are working together, and pulling for each other.

There are also a lot of things that need work, McPhie said, as there have been things done here, such as not having an intensity at practice, that are not conducive to great football. He looks to change that culture this year. The coach feels good going into this Friday's scrimmage, and said the players are ready to get after it against another team. The focus, McPhie said, is not going to be on the end result, but what the team can take away from the game.

Those on the roster are:

12th Grade - OL Kolebe Kessler, WR Ryan Johnson, OL Micheal Harvey, WR Alex Jensen, Ryan Bleak and Josiah Moon.

11th Grade - QB Cullen Becher, LB Noah Schwalbe, RB Clemens Abbott, Eric Range, OL Milton Pedan, Dokota Prosser, Tanner Boss, Austin Weaver and Thomas McCarty-Severns.

10th Grade - Jeffery VanAntwerp, LB Ethan Becher, John Harvey, Tyson Tobar, Kolby George, OL Ames Tshiffely, and RB Chandler Maddock.

9th Grade: Tyler Kay, Eric Bleak, Logan Shumway, Hunter Mounts, Hunter Bartholomew, Caleb Kessler, Peter Barrett, Chase Snooks, Riley Shaffer, Aiden Ozmon, Oran Coyne, Dustin Harvey, Jarron Mortimore, Jason Clouse, Blake Williams, Cade McLean, Spencer Axell, Josh Lackey and Clinton Harris.
