At the December 7 Hot Springs County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners held a public hearing regarding Resolution 2021-08, fiscal year 2021-22 Budget Amendment No. 1. The resolution reflected the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discovery (BHBND) WYDOT Tap Grant for $100,000 and also some unanticipated revenue for a jail overpayment for $4,537. The bill suggests a 15-cent fuel tax increase from 24 cents to 39 cents by July 1, 2024. The fuel tax would be increased by 5 cents per year for three consecutive years. At the December 7 Thermopolis Town Council meeting, during citizen participation, CPA Michael Wright presented the Town Audit to the council. Wright said the results were almost the same as last year. Wright also informed the council that he is retiring at the end of the year and that his firm will no longer be performing audits. Wright said he had some other entities he could refer to or recommend but also advised that the costs for auditing will increase. The council voted and passed approval to accept the audit. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church members will be preparing Christmas Meals this year. They will not have eat-in meals at the church. They will be preparing the food, packaging, and delivering the meals to their People for People family and anyone that needs a meal. Jerry Wayne Schlager, 86, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the Hot Springs Health in Thermopolis. Born October 18, 1935, in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was one of four children of Walter and Ann (Dorn) Schlager. The family moved from Torrington, Wyo., to Casper where Jerry graduated from high school. Thermopolis Bobcat Wrestlers started their season strong on Friday and Saturday in Powell. The Bobcat Varsity Cats placed 4th out of 21 teams and JV placed 6th in the team standings. “We looked good for the start of the season, especially on our feet. We have some work to do on top and bottom. We have a lot of room for growth,” said coach Travis McDermott. Roedy Farrell at 160 lbs. won 1st with pins in all five matches. The Thermopolis Bobcat Varsity and JV basketball teams traveled to Burns this past weekend for the Burns Classic. The Varsity girls started their season against Torrington on Friday.
