U.S. Congressman Liz Cheney recently announced her Field Representative, Lindy Linn, is scheduled to hold office hours in Hot Springs County on Dec. 5, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the Hot Springs County Library. Hot Springs County High School’s Speech and Debate team is gearing up for their home tournament, the Bobcat Invitational, Sat., Dec. 9. Coach Cindy Glasson said there are 11 schools registered for the meet, from Kemmerer and Casper Kelly Walsh to Cody, Powell, Torrington, Newcastle and others from the Big Horn Basin. “We are full,” Glasson said. “It’s going to be a great meet with kids from all over the state. Tuesday evening, the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors accepted the audit for the financial statements of the business-type activities of the hospital, as of and for the years ended June 30, 2017, and 2016. At their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21, Thermopolis Town Council, with council member Tony Larson absent, approved bonuses of $1,000 per person for 29 full-time town workers and $500 per person for two part-time workers, for a total $30,000 in insurance rebates/bonuses. Fish feeders were recently installed in Hot Springs State Park as part of a "Park Tank" contest, much like "Shark Tank" on TV. Its the yard sale every man, and some women, dream of, the Hot Springs County 4-H Shooting Sports yard sale on Saturday, Dec. 2. From 8 a.m. til 2 p.m. at the armory, you will find a variety of guns and air rifles for sale to benefit 4-H Shooting Sports. Tuesday saw the installation of new playground equipment at Bicentennial Park. The Thermopolis Town Council chose to order the equipment in August, after a slide on the old equipment was damaged and determined unsafe to use. Though there were some delays in getting it here, the new equipment is a welcome sight over the empty space in the park the past few months....
A two-hour closure of U.S. 20/Wyoming 789 on Thursday, Dec. 7, in Wind River Canyon is intended to help a contractor successfully and safely bring a large rock off the canyon wall to the edge of the highway. Wyoming Department of Transportation geologists have determined that the large rock needs to be removed from the rock wall prior to winter near the Fremont-Hot Springs county line. A Bighorn Sheep wandered into Hot Springs State Park Friday morning. A motorist reported the sheep came off the end of T-Hill, went across Highway 20 and then dropped over an embankment to the railroad tracks. He headed south along the tracks and came out near the Swinging Bridge, then headed back north along the railroad tracks.... Full story
