During the Nov. 27 meeting of Hot Springs Travel and Tourism, the board discussed ways that more tourists might be drawn to spend to more time in Thermopolis. Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Gordon let the Hot Springs County Commissioners know there is a problem with hospital employees hearing the pages that come through dispatch. Apparently, the repeater between the hospital and dispatch is out of service and they aren’t really sure how long it has been that way. Shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning a verdict of guilty was delivered to Hot Springs District Court on a charge of third-degree sexual assault against Tony Cercy. According to the charge, Cercy molested a female subject while she slept on a couch in his home. Stanley Melvin Cordingly, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2018. Stan was born August 4, 1932, in Upton, Wyo., to Vernie Arthur and Florence Mae (Adkins) Cordingly. He graduated from Upton High School in 1951. Stan served as the Captain's Yeomen during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. On October 16, 1953, he married the love of his life, Lola Belle Dowdy, and to that union four children were born. Eugene "Geno" Lewis Edkins, 93, passed away November 17, 2018, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness Center where he had resided the past two years. Born on Valentine's Day in 1925 in Elba, Colo., he was one of five children of Edward and Laura (Bell) Edkins. He worked with his family on the farm until entering the US Army at the age of 18. After his discharge he became a foreman on the Burlington Northern Railroad for six years. He married Dorothy Ellen Axtell in the 1940's in St. Francis, Kan. Timothy Wayne "Tim" Anderson, 74, passed away peacefully at his Thermopolis residence Monday, November 26, 2018, after a long battle with Leukemia. Born August 28, 1944, in Merced, Calif., he was one of five children of Albert and Madell Meyers Anderson. Growing up on a dairy farm he milked over 50 cows by hand before school and after. The Department of Family Services is now taking applications for the annual Elf Tree. Annette Arey with DFS explained if someone feels they will not be able to provide Christmas presents for their children — ages 0-17 — they can stop by the DFS office at 403 Big Horn and pick up an application with pertinent information related to the child and gifts, such as what they would like to receive and clothing size. In his first year as HSCHS head wrestling coach, Travis McDermott, brings impressive credentials to the task. The homegrown 1991 graduate of HSCHS was a Wyoming state champion in 1990 and followed that by becoming the only Bobcat ever to win the premier Wyoming wrestling tournament, the Ron Thon, in 1992.
