    Due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, Hot Springs County School District made the decesion to move to online classes only last week. A letter issued by Dustin Hunt, superintendent, stated, “It is disappointing to be in a digital instruction period this early in the school year, but unfortunately numbers of students and staff infected with COVID 19, or under quarantine orders has reached the threshold of needed separation. Brown, a lifelong Thermopolis resident, a proud veteran of World War II and Korea and a former Postmaster, passed away September 11, 2020.     The Risen Son Christian School closed this year and school board member Bradyn Harvey said it is a staffing issue, not a financial issue. “Last year they had four teachers that taught from preschool up to third grade. They planned to move up to fourth grade this year as, of course, the students became older. Harvey said, “We tried to keep growing, so we hired a fourth-grade teacher for the fall of this year,” said Harevy.     The Hot Springs County Museum has some exciting events planned. On September 11 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a concert performed by Four Shillings Short, a duo that performs music rooted in Celtic and Americana Folk inspired by Indian Raga and Ethnic idioms. They present “a diverse and inventive traditional music adventure” and use “the voices of many beautiful instruments.” The suggested donation for attendance is $8 per person ages five and up.     Lola Belle Cordingly (also affectionately known to everyone as Grandma or Big Grandma) passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, September 3, 2021. Lola was born April 25, 1936, in Fort Lupton, Colo., to William and Ada (Van Orsdal) Dowdy. She was the youngest of 12 siblings.     Nancy Kay Barton, 71, Thermopolis resident, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2021, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she had been flown for treatment. Born March 22, 1950, in Casper, Wyo., she was the daughter of Gene Louis and Phyllis June (West) Rush. Following high school, she married Roger Lee Barton on May 2, 1969, in Denver, Colo. She was employed as a County Deputy Treasurer for several years. Later Nancy was an Adult Librarian at Hot Springs County Library. She enjoyed volunteering at a Blind Camp.     Lila Ramona Waring, 96, passed away at Hot Springs County Hospital on September 3, 2021. Lila was born on March 21, 1925, in Garfield, Utah. She was one of four children born to Ryder and Asta (Christensen) Waring, proud Norwegian immigrants who entered the United States through Ellis Island, New York. She graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City in 1942. A short time after graduation, she married Wesley Guest in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
