    The Smokin’ Waters Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Thermopolis Golf Course. All proceeds from the event benefit local 4-H youth and programs. The fun kicks off at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Four person teams will play an 18 hole scrammble. Top prizes include $25,000 for a hole in one on hole 8, a $1,000 putting contest and $8,000 in cash and prizes will be paid to the top three teams gross and net.     On Friday, the Thermopolis Cross Country teams traveled to Casper Mountain for the Kelly Walsh Invite, their season opener.     Hot Springs County High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball teams played in Douglas Friday and Saturday. Freshmen played in Powell. Junior Varsity began pool play with Buffalo's Junior Varsity and ended up splitting with them 23-21 and 18-21.     The Bobcat golfers are getting into the season playing at the Cody Invite Aug. 25 and 26. Coach Jake Smith said Hudson Roling finished second overall, Kaili Johansen set two personal records and almost every golfer improved from day 1 to day 2.     The Hot Springs County High School football team was beat 46-0 in a shortened scrimmage at Lander on Friday. Coach Matthew McPhie stated "the boys played hard and it was a good learning experience, as our team was able to review the film and see what we need to clean up.     Some people run for fun, others for sport, but a dozen women recently took on the Grand Teton Relay, a 180-mile race that started 5:30 a.m. Aug. 19 in Ashton, Idaho and ended at 5:30 Aug. 20 p.m. in Teton Village, Wyo.     Several Hot Springs County youths made a strong showing at the Wyoming State Fair Aug. 13-20 in Douglas. 4-H Strite Daniels outperformed others in his class to bring home the overall grand champion 4-H senior beef showmanship award.     September 1 marks the opening for a variety of small game and upland bird species hunting seasons in Wyoming. Bird hunters can look forward to setting out for mourning dove; sora and virginia rail; snipe; early Canada goose; blue, ruffed and sharp-tailed grouse; and in some areas, sandhill crane. Small game hunters can pursue cottontail rabbit, snowshoe hare; and red, gray and fox squirrel.     Brenna Huckfeldt has taken over as the school nurse for the Hot Springs County School District. Huckfeldt was born and raised in Denver. She attended the University of Northern Colorado for two years before she transferred to the University of Wyoming. In 2007, she graduated with a degree in kinesiology and health promotion with an emphasis on exercise physiology.
