Glenn Bishop, Marion Bishop and T.J. Schoenewald participated in the State Senior Olympics Aug. 5 and 6 in Sheridan. Twenty-two states were represented in the 22 different sports available. Glenn and Marion competed in two race-walk events and took the gold medal in their age divisions. In the swimming events, both Glenn and Marion only had two competitors in their age groups. A robotics camp originally scheduled for Aug. 15-18 will now be held Saturday, Sept. 10. There is no set time yet for the camp, though it is still planned for the weight room at Thermopolis Middle School. The camp is for students in grades 5-8, and costs are covered through Lights On Afterschool. The first reported case this year of West Nile Virus in Wyoming involved an adult from Goshen County, according to the Wyoming Department of Health. Though, there have not been any reported cases of Zika in Wyoming, the Wyoming Department of Health said it is still important to take precautions. West Nile Virus first appeared in Wyoming in 2002. As of Aug. 24, Director of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources Milward Simpson will resign from his position and take over as Director of the Wyoming Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Simpson was appointed to his position as Director of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources in July of 2006 by former Gov. Dave Freudenthal. The Hot Springs County Airport will be hosting a fly-in and free pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Airport Operator Nate Messenger said everyone is welcome. “We’re trying to bring some traffic in and bring in the public to see some aircraft,” he said. Messenger also said there will be door prizes, including a fishing trip for two, gift certificates for restaurants and stores, passes to Star Plunge and hotel rooms.
