A series of stargazing and solar viewing programs beginning Friday, Aug. 18 are featured at Boysen State Park during the Great American Eclipse weekend. All programs will take place at the Tough Creek Campground and Lakeside Area. This past week was certainly a busy one, with the Gift of the Waters Pageant, Big Horn Basin Folk Festival and Kiwanis Craft Fair providing plenty to do in Hot Springs State Park. Annually, as we approach another Perseids Meteor Shower in August, I am reminded of a day back in 2000, and a wildfire. It was August 11. The Kates Basin Fire was burning the ridge from Blondie Pass to the Wind River Canyon. The day began fairly benign. Crews were making progress building fire line. Franklin Clarke Jackman, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center after a short illness. Clarke was born September 10, 1936, in Kansas City, Mo., and was one of four children born to Franklin and Lolita (Russell) Jackman. After graduating from high school in Lawrence, Kan., he attended Colorado State receiving his degree in Animal Husbandry. On February 2, 1957, he married JoAnn Winder in Windsor, Colo. Melvin Ray Love, 49, passed away on August 2, 2017, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyo., after his 3rd battle with cancer. Melvin was born on October 24, 1967, in Thermopolis.
