  • Livestock sale brings in more than $123,000

    The 2019 Junior Livestock Auction at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds on Friday night was a success, with total sales amounting to $123,146. Along with sheep, swine and beef, there were lots of baked good that went on the auction block, too, from cookies to cakes and even coffee. The baked goods sold for $6,775 with the high seller being Silas Dickey, whose basket of goodies sold to ABL Consulting for $775. This year there were several new items, including a game in which four people attached to bungee cords have to grab as many beanbags as they can.     During their Tuesday night meeting, the Thermopolis Town Council approved rate increases for water and sanitation, as well as landfill charges. Council approved Resolution 555, which amends Ordinance No. 841 to raise the base rate from $18 to $18.90 per month for all in-town and out of town users for each single unit and per single unit in a multiple unit.     While the current infestation of grass hoppers in the county are a problem for farmers and those growing gardens, they have created a good month for the Hot Springs County Airport. Nate Messenger, FBO for the airport told the Hot Springs County Commissioners at their Tuesday meeting that the airport had sold more than 7,800 gallons of jet fuel with 3,700 gallons of that going into the planes that have been doing spraying for the hoppers.     In the latest development of a case involving Joe and Barbara Campbell, as well as 10 anonymous plaintiffs, against Tri County Telephone Association, TCT has filed an appeal on an order to the United States Court of Appeals. The appeal, filed July 2, contests the judgment entered on June 4, on the cross motions for summary judgment in the case. The scope of work for prime contractor Mountain Construction Co. of Lovell includes milling of existing asphalt pavement, asphalt paving, chip sealing and other work on 6.8 miles of U.S. 20/WY789.
