Local coffee roaster targeted in scam

Recently, Jackrabbit Java in Thermopolis was the recipient of a handwritten letter claiming a whole bean bag of its product was recently purchased, though the customer later tried the product and was disappointed as it tasted “stale.”

The customer then requests a replacement of the coffee and an explanation of how it happened.

While this appears to be a letter targeted specifically at the local business, it was found that such letters have actually been sent out to various coffee companies across the country. As of July 25, more than similar letters were received, all stating the same complaint — stale tasting coffee — and demanding a replacement of product.

It is suspected these letters are part of a scam, as they have similar language, a common complainant named “Daniel” and requests to send the replacement coffees to an address in Las Vegas.
