Make time for some county fun

This week, with all the political hubbub going around, take a break and take in the annual Hot Springs County Fair. Fair gets underway with the Pee Wee and 4-H and FFA Youth Horse Show this weekend, and there’s certainly plenty to see and do over the next few days.

Of course, there will be plenty of critters to see when the fair buildings are open, but it’s also important to support our local youth as they show their skills and knowledge about their animals during the week’s shows.

There’s also events for you to participate in as well, whether you feel like wrestling pig, showing off your chili recipe or just coming out for some family fun on Wednesday night.

Having grown up in a rural community and later covering fair activities, I can honestly say it is one of the busiest weeks out of the year, but also one of the best as it provides an opportunity for our youth to showcase their animals and for the community to show off their skills in the open class.

And if the excitement of Fair Week isn’t enough for you, we’ve got the Irish trio Socks in the Frying Pan playing at Hot Springs State Park on Tuesday and, of course, the Gift of the Waters Pageant and Big Horn Basing Folk Festival in the park over the Aug. 4 and 5 weekend.

So, no matter what your tastes, Hot Springs County will have plenty of activities over the coming days for you to find some fun.
