On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Wednesday, July 4

8:24 p.m. Report of a dispute at a business. Shawn D. DeVries was arrested for alleged simple assault.

6:51 p.m. A driver’s license was found, and contact was made with the owner.

Friday, July 6

10:55 p.m. Report of fireworks being lit in the canyon. No suspicious items or subjects could be located.

Saturday, July 7

6:10 p.m. A semi hauling hay bales through the canyon lost part of its load. A deputy and a local subject were able to clear the road, and the semi driver was able to get the vehicle off the road.

Sunday, July 8

12:28 p.m. Complaint of harassment, and the suspect reported he would no longer contact the complainant.

Monday, July 9

9:26 a.m. Report of damaged mailboxes. The incident is under investigation.

Monday, July 2

12:21 p.m. Report of a stolen truck, which was later recovered in Las Vegas. The incident is under investigation.

3:53 p.m. Report of a burglary which was unfounded.

4:03 p.m. A subject was stopped for driving on an incomplete bill of sale and was arrested for alleged interfering with an officer, driving without a license and possession of a controlled substance.

The subject allegedly ingested a large quantity of meth and was flown to Casper for treatment and subsequently released. The matter was forwarded to the county attorney’s office.

Tuesday, July 3

2:45 p.m. Karl Bert Loos was arrested on a probation arrest and hold.

5:13 p.m. Jesse A. Sovey was arrested on a warrant.

6:38 p.m. Report of a subjects throwing rocks and firecrackers at a dog.

11:11 p.m. Complainant reported loud music and yelling from a neighbor’s home. The officer found it was from a kid’s party.

Wednesday, July 4

1:39 a.m. REDDI report, though the suspect vehicle could not be located.

8:34 a.m. A pistol and holster were returned to their owner, who didn’t realize they’d fallen out when he exited a vehicle.

9:08 p.m. Officer responded to a report of fireworks being set off. Subjects were spoken to and agreed to comply with the town ordinance. A second group was spoken to at 9:14 p.m.

10:58 p.m. REDDI report, though the driver was contacted and showed no signs of intoxication.

Thursday, July 5

2:11 p.m. An inner tube with no rider was found on the river. The river was searched but nobody in distress was found.

3:13 p.m. Following a vehicle stop for speeding, Michael Blake was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance.

5:23 p.m. Report of a vehicle speeding and running people off the road. The suspect vehicle could not be located.

6:25 p.m. Report of subjects falling off a raft. Another subject was able to get them out of the river.

8:36 p.m. Officer was requested for a dispute between neighbors.

Friday, July 6

12:40 p.m. Report of money missing from a purse.

4:40 p.m. Officer responded to a dispute over property.

Sunday, July 8

2:41 p.m. Initial report of an assault, though it appeared the situation had calmed down prior to the officer’s arrival.

Monday, July 9

7:44 a.m. Officer responded to vehicles blocking an alley. Upon further investigation it was found many of the license plates didn’t match the vehicles, and the plates were confiscated.

12:14 p.m. Complaint of a vehicle with a trailer taking up several parking spaces. The vehicle was parked legally.

Birth

Konnor Michael Simpson was born Friday, June 15, 2018, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Lindsay and Kevin Simpson of Thermopolis, Wyo.

He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

Grandparents are Maureen Leak of Thermopolis, and Mike and Becky Simpson of Redfield, Iowa.

Circuit court

Deanna S. Morgan was found guilty of interference with an officer and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 179 days suspension and six months supervised probation.

Roberta L. Harris was found guilty of simple assault and was sentenced to 45 days in jail with 45 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $200.
