Gerrells fundraiser

The VFW will be home to a cookie jar auction for John Gerrells on Friday, July 13. Gerrells recently underwent colon cancer surgery also has to have a heart surgery.

Gerrells actually began the cookie jar auctions back in 1993, Meredith VanAntwerp said, with the very first done to help the state championship football team to raise money for a trip to Australia. It has since developed into a benefit event for those facing medical issues or other crises.

VanAntwerp said Gerrells has touched so many lives in this town, and the cookie jar auctions are a time when she sees people come together.

A donation dinner will be on July 13 at 5:30 p.m. with the auction following. For more information, contact VanAntwerp at 921-9805.
