Really miss those days

“Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the heck happened.”

I do think about this on occasion, like getting out of bed in the morning, knees popping, or when I try to do something I’ve done all my life and suddenly realize its not as easy as it used to be.

I’m looking out the office window this morning and started thinking about what I would have been doing 40 years ago at this time.

Wildcat Band.

We were up and on the streets at 7 a.m., marching and twirling flags, blowing our horns and sweating up a storm.

Folks would come out of the businesses downtown to watch and listen as we marched three, four, five miles each morning getting ready for the upcoming parades in July.

How many times did we march up Broadway? Oh, and how fun it was to go inside the TeePee pool and play under the dome.

The tears and the blisters were well worth it though when we’d whip the socks off all the other bands. We were in awesome shape, watching members of other bands drop from the heat or the length of the parade route.

We were a proud bunch.

I really miss those days on mornings like this.
