New recreation director named

There's a new face at the Hot Springs County Recreation District as new director, Anja Abbott, officially began Tuesday morning.

A 2012 graduate of Hot Springs County High School and a 2016 graduate of the University of Wyoming, Abbott earned her college degree in Math, but has always had a passion for sports and has been travelling to help coach girls' soccer in Worland.

She noted in her studies there was a Sports Economics Class, where they actually played fantasy basketball and followed all the money that goes into the game.

Abbott enjoys football, soccer and basketball, and though she enjoys watching volleyball, baseball and softball she admits she's not very good at them.

Her first couple hours working at the Rec. District, she was getting set up on the computer and all the different apps used to let the community know about practice times, and learning what a typical week for the district looks like.

In addition to what the district already offers, Abbott said there's been some discussion about offering Yoga as a regular class. Pickleball is also offered, though she's considering also doing some additional small court games.

Outgoing director, Brad Morrison, said he's excited about Abbott coming in and thinks she'll be a great addition to the community. He added she is someone from the town that people can really get behind and help to improve the district in many ways.

Though there is no final date for Morrison, he hopes to still help out at the district at least until the end of the school year.
