Hometown Holiday Cheer

The annual Festival of Trees saw 16 trees and 14 wreaths auctioned off this year, and $8,975 generated for the Thermopolis Community Fund, according to Stephanie Conrad.

A portion of the funds will be given to People for People, while the rest is distributed to the community through an application process.

Judy Carswell said People for People's downtown event, the Tour of Homes Christmas Campers, was a success as well. Taking the place of the regular Tour of Homes this year, the event saw an estimated 300 to 400 people. While no tickets were sold, Carswell said there were plenty of people who donated money.

There were nine campers for the event, Carswell said, with Stacy Hessenthaler's voted the best. Though the camper event was a success Carswell doesn't think it will replace the Tour of Homes, which is expected to be back for the 2018 holiday season. However, the campers could return for a summer fundraiser.

Also during the downtown activities, People for People raffled off a piece of Nativity art, won by Jerry Deromedi.
