On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Tuesday, Nov. 14

5:37 p.m. Report of a semi travelling on Highway 20 that was throwing sparks. The vehicle had lost a tire and was causing gouges in the road. The driver was told to shut the vehicle down and not move it until the problem was fixed.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

12:20 p.m. Ongoing investigation into strange activity in the Red Lane area.

4:37 p.m. Welfare check performed on a vehicle and driver on Black Mountain Road. The deputy assisted with the vehicle.

6:49 p.m. Check done on a truck and driver on Highway 120. It was found the vehicle was out of fuel and the driver planned to return with some.

Thursday, Nov. 16

10:11 a.m. Report of an IRS scam. The subject being called did not give out any personal information.

11:17 a.m. Report of several 911 calls from a vehicle along Highway 120. The deputy later stopped a school bus in the area and spoke with the students about the dangers of calling 911 when there is no emergency. A juvenile female admitted to calling the number and apologized.

10:24 p.m. Vehicle vs. deer accident near East Sunnyside.

11:42 p.m. Report of harassment between two parties. The matter is under investigation.

Friday, Nov. 17

2:30 p.m. Report of smoke sighted in the Buffalo Creek area. It turned out to be a low lying cloud.

3:13 p.m. Issues between a livestock owner and the caretaker. The matter was deemed civil in nature.

7:58 p.m. Report of a vehicle with its hazard lights on along Highway 120. The vehicle was involved in an accident with a deer. There was no damage to the vehicle and the deer was dispatched.

9:58 p.m. Accident in East Thermopolis in which a vehicle backed into another.

Saturday, Nov. 18

9:04 a.m. Accident reported on Big Springs Drive. However, the accident was reported 11 hours after it happened.

Sunday, Nov. 19

3:55 p.m. Request for a citizen assist from a business. The subject requested a ride back to a vehicle to wait for another ride.

Police department

Tuesday, Nov. 14

10:15 a.m. Brandon R. Boren was arrested for alleged probation violation.

12:41 p.m. A female subject returned home to find a package not addressed to her. After further investigation, it was found the package was paid for with a stolen bank card number. As it was the bank’s property, they had the police determine what to do with it. The package, which contained 30 shirts, was donated to the H.O.P.E. Agency.

4:18 p.m. Reporting party reported coming home to find the door open. Nothing was missing from the home.

6:06 p.m. A semi was reportedly blocking traffic and was moved.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

2:11 a.m. Report of a subject being loud and obnoxious. Jason K. Flint was arrested for alleged public intoxication.

9:04 a.m. Request for traps for feral cats. A total of eight cats were trapped.

10:13 a.m. Report of property being sold without proper paperwork. The matter is under investigation.

9:45 p.m. Caller reported an apartment door was open. The apartment was cleared and the door resecured.

Thursday, Nov. 16

9:12 a.m. A driver was cited for passing a bus that had it’s flashing lights on.

11:35 a.m. Complainant reported she was being harassed by another subject.

Friday, Nov. 17

8:35 p.m. A dumpster was struck causing it to hit a gas meter. The meter leaked and was shut off by the fire department.

Saturday, Nov. 18

11:41 a.m. Report of damage to multiple vehicles. It is suspected the damage is from rocks kicked up by passing vehicles.

9:07 p.m. Report of vandalism at Ralph Witters Elementary. Upon arrival, the officer observed kids trying to take apart a scooter by banging it on the basketball court. There was no damage done to the court.

Sunday, Nov. 19

2:19 a.m. Following a vehicle stop, Cache L. Andersen was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

11:37 a.m. Welfare check performed on a juvenile, who was found to be OK.

Circuit court

Dennis D. Jones was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 76 days suspended. Fees and fines are $690.

Lacy D. Raney was found guilty of driving without an interlock device and was sentenced to 180 days with 173 days suspended and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $455.

Eark S. Bell was found guilty of shoplifting under $1,000 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspended and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $205. Restitution is $14.99.

Patricia Henry was found guilty of speeding too fast for conditions, failure to report over $1,000 property damage or injury, leaving the scene of an accident and no insurance. Fees and fines are $1,100.

Joshua Hoyer was found guilty of battery and was sentenced to 180 days in jail. Fees and fines are $205.

Amanda Wilk was found guilty of selling or furnishing alcohol to a person under 21. Fees and fines are $100.

Jeffrey Johnson was found guilty of hunting during a closed season. Fees and fines are $200.

Births

Lucas Leroy Jones was born Friday, November 17, 2017, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Kimberly and Jason Jones of Thermopolis.

He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

Grandparents are Jerry and Nancy Williams and Dave and Alice Jones, all of Thermopolis.
