Senior center roof bid awarded

The Hot Springs County Commissioners held their first November meeting on Tuesday, hearing reports from most of the departments.

Nate Messenger, FBO at Hot Springs County Airport told the commissioners the month of October was a little slow on the fuel sales side of things, but there were a few more actual operations.

He had to call in the service tech for the AWAS transmitter system as it had failed for the third time in October. Messenger said the tech added additional grounding to the system, but is not sure what is causing the issue.

Anthony Fruciano met with the commissioners for the first time since becoming the head of the maintenance department.

Although he still feels like he’s “getting his feet underneath him” with the job, he has already met with the HVAC people and made the decision to replace the belts and filters on the units in-house rather than having the company waste precious time with it.

Snow removal was interesting, he said, having to learn how to use the plow truck, but he’s sure when the new side-by-side unit arrives the end of this month it will be a lot easier to do.

The commissioners awarded the roofing bid for the Senior Center to Red Roofing out of Cody for $140,074.

While the commissioners have applied for emergency SLIB funding and should find out sometime during the first of December, they are still planning on going to Cheyenne to plead their case.

They are hoping to have everything finished by Jan. 31.

All of the blading on county roads has been finished according to Road and Bridge head, Dave Schlager.

They replaced a culvert and rebuilt the shoulder in an area of Black Mountain recently. According to Schlager, the bottom of the culvert had rotted out and he would not be surprised to see other culverts in that area begin to fail the same way as they were all installed at about the same time.

He also reported he has asked for a speed study to be done on Skelton Road and a couple of others, however, the state will probably not get to it until sometime in the spring unless we have a couple of weeks of really good weather.

Sheriff Lou Falgoust asked the commissioners for approval for a Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $20,330.

Falgoust said the money would be used for equipment purchases such as body cameras or cameras for the cars. While he hasn’t decided exactly what they want, the money will not be used for salaries or overtime.
