On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Tuesday, Sept. 26

10:51 a.m. Report of hunters who were shooting too close to the road. The suspect parties could not be located.

2:45 p.m. Complainant reported a subject was harassing and stalking him, and was told to document any further instances.

6:53 p.m. Report of a found wallet, which was later returned.

Thursday, Sept. 28

12:54 p.m. Report of cows on the highway. The animals were off the road prior to the deputy’s arrival.

5:55 p.m. Report of an injured deer. The animal was dispatched.

Friday, Sept. 29

9:29 a.m. Report of a possible probation violation.

2:23 REDDI report on a truck that was going very fast. The suspect vehicle could not be located.

Saturday, Sept. 30

12:37 p.m. An unknown vehicle struck a fence post on East River Road.

4:04 p.m. Report of an ATV and a dirt bike at Warm Springs. The riders were contacted and told they couldn’t be there.

11:01 p.m. Report of a subject making an accusation against another.

Monday, Oct. 2

3:42 p.m. A 911 call came in but was disconnected. The location where the call came from could not be identified.

7:23 p.m. Report of a subject making harassing phone calls.

Tuesday, Sept. 26

7:56 a.m. Complaint of a contractor blocking the road. The contractor had put up “street closed” signs.

10:08 a.m. Layne Walz was arrested for alleged probation violation.

1:45 p.m. An officer was called to a custody exchange. An individual did not have support documents.

Wednesday, Sept. 27

9:20 a.m. Welfare check was performed on a subject, who was found to be OK.

11:12 a.m. Tonya Tsukas was arrested for alleged violation of a court order.

6:15 p.m. Parents were having issues with a juvenile child and were given advice on the situation.

7:29 p.m. Report of an individual who seemed disoriented. Contact was made with the subject, who showed no signs of impairment or medical issues. A friend was contacted to drive the subject home.

Thursday, Sept. 28

1:02 a.m. Complainant reported a subject knocking on the back door. The subject had fled prior to the officer’s arrival.

1:40 a.m. REDDI report for a possibly impaired driver. The subject could not be located.

8:04 a.m. Report of a subject allegedly causing issues in Hot Springs State Park. There was a dispute between the subject and a park employee, and a request to have the subject served with a trespass notice.

9:07 a.m. Report of a possible impaired driver. The driver was contacted and was found to simply be tired. After an assessment, the driver agreed to pull over and get some rest.

10:14 a.m Caller reported finding a hypodermic needle in a driveway. The needle was collected and disposed of properly.

8:43 p.m. Report of a vehicle with no taillights. The driver was unaware of the situation and was escorted home.

11:08 p.m. Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle. The responding officer noted there was nobody in the vehicle and nobody suspicious in the area.

Friday, Sept. 29

5:29 p.m. Two juveniles were throwing traffic cones into a construction site. The subjects were contacted, as well as their parents.

6:08 p.m. Report of an unknown driver backing into a barrier around a gas meter.

Saturday, Sept. 30

10:07 a.m. Subject reported being scammed online. The subject was talked into sending a naked photo, and was threatened with the photo going public.

4:34 p.m. Subject believed he was the victim of credit card fraud and was advised on what action to take.

5:59 p.m. An intoxicated subject at a motel was contacted, and decided to go elsewhere.

Sunday, Oct. 1

9:10 p.m. A vehicle was left in a business lot, and the owner was advised to move it.

Monday, Oct. 2

7:07 p.m. Report of a suspicious subject. The subject could not be found.

11:52 p.m. Report of two intoxicated subjects attempting to gain entry to a building through a locked door. The subjects were gone prior to the officer’s arrival.

Circuit court

Ambra O’Brien was found guilty of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to one year in jail with 351 suspended and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $255.

Leah Wang was found guilty of use of a controlled substance. Fees and fines are $255.

Joshua Horton was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance. Fees and fines are $255.

Raymond DeVries Sr. was found guilty of breach of peace. Fees and fines are $640.

Scott Jackson was found guilty of stop sign violation and driving without an interlock device and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 111 days suspended and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $440.
