Cross county continues with top placings

The cross country team kept up its speed last Thursday at the Warrior Invite in Worland, with three high school girls making the top 10. McKenna Bomengen placed third with 20:22, Olivia Weyer placed seventh with 20:56 and Tahja Hunt placed 10th with 21:09.

Coach Stephanie Metz noted the middle school girls did awesome, also with three in the top 10 -Dazlynn Hunt at second with 12:40, Jayda Griffin at seventh with 13:18 and Hallie Martinez at 10th with 13:40. Metz noted at this meet they ran JV and Varsity together, and she felt their JV runner Dayna Sandberg should've been in the top placings as well. Sandberg did drop a couple minutes off her time and set a personal record of 25:03, placing 30th.

An interesting thing happened at the meet as well, when Ethan Crow ran out of one of his shoes in the last 200 yards. Metz said it didn't deter him at all, and he still finished strong, placing 34th with 14:03.

This was also the first meet in which Hudson Roling ran; he had previously been playing on the golf team and just came on, finishing 13th with 17:50. Metz said, "It's great to have him on our team." Though he just missed a top 10 finish, Metz said Roling did well for only having four days of practice.

"It was a great meet," Metz said, noting the kids were feeling good and had some amazing times. A few are still fighting colds, so the cold weather was a bit rough on them, "but we're getting healthier," she said.

Metz is excited about the upcoming Bobcat Invite at the Thermopolis Golf Course and expects some personal records. She said it's a hard course, but the team did great with it last year. The team will practice at the course Friday so they can get to know their surroundings, and so the high school runners can explain what it's like to the middle schoolers.

Following the Bobcat Invite and the awards presentation, there will be an "Always a Bobcat" race that the community is invited to join.

Additional middle school results from the meet are:

Elizabeth Peterson 20th 14:34

Brooklyn Williams 23rd 14:39

Kadance Bowman 27th 15:18

Jesse Rodriguez 44th 14:43

Kanyon Gerber 48th 14:57

Karsten Hart 51st 15:16
