Lady Cats headed to Rawlins

The Lady Cats volleyball team had a rough weekend in Cody last week as they attended the Border Wars Tournament, playing four different schools from Montana.

Coach Shannon Hill said, "This weekend was really an eye opener for me as a coach, as far as understaning what out next step needs to be.

"We really got tired in our five-game matches, so that is one focus we will have during this week's practice."

Unfortunately for the tournament, the girls went 0-4, losing in four games to Miles City, lost in five games to Glendive, three to Laurel and finished the weekend losing five to Sidney.

Decreasing the number of unforced errors will be another huge goal going into this weekend's tournament as well.

"I saw some really positive things this weekend," Hill said, "but it also gave me a great starting point for what we need to focus on during practice this week."

Hill added the seniors did a great job of leading the team through the ups and downs, especially Haley McDermott, Emmie Coyne and Mary Ryan.

The team is really looking forward to the Rawlins Invitational this weekend and the opportunity to play against other 3A schools to see how they measure up.

On the JV side of the bench, the team opened up their first match of the Ace Fest home tournament against Lovell, taking the win in three games; 13-21, 21-16 and 15-11.

They followed the win with a loss to Lander; 10-21 and 17-21 and a loss to Buffalo; 19-21 and 15-21.

"Overall, the tournament went well," said JV coach Courtney O'Connor. "We saw huge improvements from last week. They're really starting to come together and play as a team.

Kylee DeVries had 11 kills for the weekend, Sarina Guyon served up five aces and Elisa Weber had four blocks.

The JV team will be traveling to Rawlins this weekend as well.
