Lady Cats head to Border Wars

Lady Cats volleyball headed to Riverton last weekend for their first tournament of the season, the McDonald’s Invite.

“Our first tournament is always a good one to set goals for the season and to really gauge a starting point for each of our teams,” head coach Shannon Hill said.

The girls played really well on Friday, playing Powell first and losing in two; 21-9, 21-15.

They bounced back in their second match against Kemmerer, getting their first win of the season; 21-15, 21-19.

Although they played well in their third match against Riverton, Hill said they just couldn’t get on a run to bring it home. They lost, 21-14, 21-16.

Jackson was next and the Lady Cats took the long way to the win, losing the first round 21-19 before jumping back in and winning the next two; 21-17, 15-8.

“This season we are really focused on our recovery rituals and bouncing back from each point,” Hill said. “Friday’s play proved that our girls are really working on their mindset and working as a team.”

Hill added the girls played tough all weekend but were just out of sync on Saturday, losing both matches to Pinedale; 21-9, 21-16, and then lost a pair to Jackson; 21-15, 21-19.

“It was unfortunate (losing to Jackson) because we had played really well against them the previous night,” she said. “I was super proud of the girls this weekend and anyone who was watching them play could see that we are moving in the right direction.”

This Friday and Saturday the team heads to Cody for the Border Wars Tournament.
