Intrigued by martial law concept

August 3, 2017

I am intrigued by Hanes W. Hall’s letter, putting forth the concept of the possibility of the imposition of “martial law” by the president. Seems to be another unfounded (and confounding as well) conspiracy theory from a particular political party.

Only the current president could impose a national system of “martial law.” I personally have heard nothing - zero, zip, nada - about the president even remotely considering such an action. And I’m curious, why would the president want to do that in the first place? For no reason that I can think of. The economy is truly recovering after eight long years of misery. In six short months the president has made good on his campaign theme “Make America Great Again,” though much still needs to be done.

On the other hand, before the 2016 election, there was much discussion - news articles, gossip, rumor, whispers, idle chitchat - that America would be better off under the past president’s order for martial law. That would allow him to subvert the Constitutional limitation (Twenty-Second Amendment) on his term in office. Now wouldn’t that be a hoot!

The past president, having subverted the Constitution and making Congress irrelevant (as it seems to be already), could then appoint a past presidential candidate as a six-star general (the first ever) as head of all military branches, thus allowing the social engineering of the military to continue. Eventually the past president, tiring of running the country from D.C., would allow a peaceful military coup, putting the general (who was unable to win an election for the position) in his place as “president.”

Now that is a conspiracy theory that, fortunately for the American people and the country and the Constitution, cannot now come to fruition.
