Come see the animals and the artistry

Next week, the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds will be busy as the 2017 County Fair gets into full swing. Of course, youth involved with the fair will be plenty active as they prep their exhibits, weigh their animals and prepare to show them in the arena. Plenty others not showing animals will have exhibits in several ag-related fields as well as work such as photography, beadwork and ceramics.

Even if you’re not an exhibitor, the week provides an opportunity to come on down to the fairgrounds and cheer on our local youth and admire the work people have put into their projects. There’s also ample opportunity for some fun with the pet parade and fun night on Wednesday and the chili cook off Thursday, and even just a walk through the animal stalls and pens can be a learning experience for those who might not have up close experience with farm animals.

Though fair week is packed full of activity, it almost seems here and gone too quickly. Though it might tire you out, take some time over the weekend to partake of some more artistry during the Gift of the Waters Pageant and the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival. The pageant itself, depicting how the Native Americans from the Wind River Reservation gave the hot mineral water of the Big Spring to the state, is truly something to behold. Add to that the numerous people who come to the festival to show off their crafts, and Hot Springs State Park turns into a bevy of activity.

So, those with plans for the next week, and even those without, make some time, and some memories, at the fair, pageant and festival.
