Community blood drive Monday

A Thermopolis Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Monday, July 17 from 4:15-7:15 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Senior Center. The Hot Springs County Hospital Auxiliary is hosting the drive, and Melene Mierzejewski said the goal is to collect 24 units of blood, though 30 were requested. She further added the most units generated at a drive here is 32.

Mierzejewski said many of the donors they see are older, so they’re really hoping to see some young people come in and donate. Donors must be at least 18, though 17-year-olds can also donate if they have parental permission.

Those who want to save time and make an appointment in advance can go to http://www.bloodhero.com and enter sponsor code Thermopolis, or contact Mierzejewski at 307-240-1414. Using the website, people can also “fast track” their wait time at the blood drive by answering questions beforehand. However, the fast track is available only on the morning of the drive.

Free cholesterol testing is done every donation, and donors are asked to bring a photo ID and donor card if they have one.
