Bobcats host golf tourney

Spring golf got underway this past weekend at the Bobcats traveled to Sheridan to participate in a match-play tournament.

Coach Jacob Smith said it was a nice change of pace from the constant stroke play tournaments.

With it being spring break and many athletes out of town, Smith was only able to take four golfers, Hudson Roling, Caleb DeCroo, Jaxon Davis and Cade McLean. Smith said the two veterans, Roling and DeCroo, performed well.

“They didn’t quite play to the level they were hoping to,” Smith said, “but had a good first tournament.”

Davis, a sophomore, continues to show promise and Smith feels with work this spring and summer he should hold a top five position next fall.

McLean, a freshman playing his first competitive high school golf, performed well, though not as well as he had hoped.

“Cade (McLean) is a solid golfer who has the potential to be a serious competitor,” Smith said. “With minor work on his mental game, he also could be a part of the varsity squad if I can talk him out of playing football in the fall!”

Hot Springs County High School’s golf team will be hosting their spring home tournament this Friday, starting at 10 a.m., and Smith hopes to be able to have a full roster for the meet.

Teams from Powell, Lander, Worland, Cody, Kemmerer, Buffalo and Lovell will be playing at the Thermopolis golf course.

As always, the public is invited to come watch the Bobcats in action.
