Hot Spot to host cruising events

The 25th annual Hot Spot Car Rally is quickly approaching. As always, the event is planned for Father’s Day weekend, June 17 and 18 this year. However, in the weekends leading up to the main event, the public is invited to bring their rides out for some evening “cruise-in” events. The first cruise is April 21.

Stephanie Owens explained the events were the idea of Rhonda and Barry Nelson of the Hot Spot Car Rally committee, to give the community a bit of fun. The cruises are not just limited to those who have “car show” vehicles; anyone can bring whatever vehicle they choose.

Similar to the annual rally, there will be a procession of vehicles along a set route through town. Interested drivers should meet at the Kiwanis shelter in Hot Springs State Park around 6 p.m. Some of the committee members will pack their own picnic lunch and enjoy a meal at the shelter, but attendees are welcome to bring their own picnics as well.

The cruise itself is scheduled to start around 7 p.m., and there will be some discussion of the route prior. Owens noted it really is the people’s choice to determine the set path. However, it’s important to note that drivers will have to obey traffic laws, as there will be no street closures like there are for the car rally procession.

Owens said the event is meant to be a bonding activity for “gear heads” and anyone who enjoys cars. Future cruises are scheduled for May 5 and 19, and June 2, 9 and 16.
