"The Mask You Live In" screening

Growing up is not an easy task, but most often the focus is on girls and the situations and expectations society has for them. Mainstream media pushes the idea that girls must be pretty, skinny and all other manner of things in order to be “feminine”.

Unfortunately, until now, growing boys have been pretty much left out of the equation on “what makes a man”.

Ever wonder why boys are more prone to violent behavior than girls? Why don’t boys cry? Why is the tough-guy image perpetuated?

“The Mask You Live In” is a critically acclaimed film that follows a diverse group of boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while navigating America’s narrow definition of masculinity.

Neurologists, psychologists, child advocates and other academics contributed to the making of the film that will be presented at the school auditorium on March 17 at 4:30 p.m.

The screening is free and there will be a panel discussion following the showing.

The H.O.P.E. Agency brings the film to Thermopolis through a sponsorship by the Tri-County Pilot Community and the Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
