On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuesday, December 27

10:29 p.m. Following a single vehicle accident, Christopher Mower was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and cited for open container, suspended license and driving too fast for conditions.

Wednesday, December 28

5:08 p.m. Assist with Department of Family Services.

Thursday, December 29

7:50 a.m. Complainant stated a neighbor’s dogs killed her rabbits. The dogs’ owners could not be contacted.

Friday, December 30

6:17 a.m. Caller found a dog and wanted to have it impounded. However, the owner was contacted and picked up the dog prior to the deputy’s arrival.

Saturday, December 31

8:44 p.m. Two minor subjects were cited for minor in possession.

Wednesday, December 28

10:16 a.m. Report of two dogs, described as puppies, at large. The dogs could not be located.

11:39 a.m. Report of two dogs at large. The dogs could not be located.

5:41 p.m. Complainant reported a phone scam in which a caller pretends to be an attorney and attempts to get victims’ information and get them to sign over the title to their vehicles.

Thursday, December 29

8:57 a.m. Report of a barking dog. The dog had been left out a couple hours when it was three degrees. The owner was spoken to.

2:24 p.m. Report of juveniles making inappropriate statements to each other. They were told to knock it off.

6:18 p.m. Brothers arguing over a game were separated.

6:56 p.m. An unknown subject was believed to be buying tobacco for minors. No contact was made with the subject.

10:53 p.m. A welfare check was performed on an elderly subject who was found to be fine.

Friday, December 30

10:36 a.m. A subject reported being harassed, but was actually being evicted.

11:42 a.m. REDDI report on a vehicle that was all over the road. The driver was sober and received citations, but not for driving under the influence.

3:47 p.m. Report of a missing dog.

Saturday, December 31

1:39 a.m. Complainant reported someone walking in the alley behind her home. Nothing was found in the alley, including any tracks.

5:14 p.m. Jacob Fyffe was arrested on a Washakie County warrant.

6:32 p.m. A welfare check was performed on a male subject who was subsequently taken to the hospital.

7:10 p.m. Kyle Baker was arrested on a Sublette County warrant.

Sunday, January 1

2:35 p.m. Officer responded to a civil standby which was later cancelled.

Monday, January 2

8:25 p.m. Report of two subjects accusing each other of theft. The incident is under investigation.

Births

Laina Claire Benefiel was born Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Jessica and Gary Benefiel of Thermopolis, Wyo.

She weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 22 inches long.

Grandparents are Dan and Penny Herdt and Pam and Buddy Rangel, all of Thermopolis and Gary Benefiel of Idaho.

Carmen Yvonne Renee Michaelsen was born Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Felicia Renee Leyva and Charles Robert Michaelsen of Wyoming.

Grandparents are Lucy and Richard Leyva and Tonya Kinser of Wyoming and Steve Michaelsen of Texas.

Circuit court

David Balstad was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 90 days suspension and one year unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $690.

Dakota Wedor was found guilty of being under 21 and consuming alcohol and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspension and six months supervised probation.
