Milward Simpson resigns as parks Director

As of Aug. 24, Director of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources Milward Simpson will resign from his position and take over as Director of the Wyoming Chapter of the Nature Conservancy.

Simpson was appointed to his position as Director of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources in July of 2006 by former Gov. Dave Freudenthal. Prior to this position, Simpson served as the Administrator of the Division of Cultural Resources. He also served as the Manager of the Wyoming Arts Council.

Before serving many positions for the state, Simpson worked for the nonprofit sector as well as served on several boards, including the Western States Arts Federation and the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund.

Simpson said being the Director of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources is the best job he has ever had.

“This is the greatest job,” he said. “If you can’t have fun here, you don’t know how to have fun. I’m very grateful to Gov. Matt Mead and former Gov. Dave Freudenthal.”

Simpson said he wants to do more to serve the state of Wyoming.

“There’s a lot I’ve wanted to do with my career while I still have the gas to do it,” he said. “Conservancy has always been important to me, and I’m grateful to still be serving Wyoming.”

As the Director of the Wyoming Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, Simpson said he plans to listen and learn.

“My goals are listening, learning and looking at the strategic plan,” he said. “I’m excited to be working with a wonderful board and staff. I want to see where we’re at and where we want to go.”
