First Tour de Wish Thermopolis Saturday

The first Tour de Wish 5k ride and walk event in Thermopolis will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Hot Springs State Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Make-A-Wish Wyoming’s Community Relations Coordinator Tess Kersenbrock said the Tour de Wish series was inspired by the first wish granted in Wyoming to 10-year-old Brian of Gillette who wished for a BMX bike in 1985.

“Since Brian’s wish was granted more than 30 years ago, over 500 children battling life-threatening medical conditions in Wyoming have had their wishes granted,” she said. “We see this event as a chance to celebrate Brian’s wish and the local families we continue to serve.”

The best part of this event is the opportunity it gives supporters to be part of the magic of a wish, Kersenbrock said.

“Through this event, participants have the chance to be a part of local wishes and see first-hand the hope, strength and joy they are able to provide to wish families,” she said.

Kersenbrock said there are currently 33 Wyoming children with pending wishes.

“By choosing to be a part of Tour de Wish Thermopolis, participants are a part of granting each of these wishes,” she said. “It is through their support, these wishes will be possible.”

Those interested in learning more about the event or registering can do so online at wyoming.wish.org. Pre-registration is $15 per participant and registration on the day of the event will be $20. Children under the age of 10 ride or run for free.

Proceeds from Tour de Wish Thermopolis will go towards granting the wishes of children battling life-threatening medical conditions across Wyoming. This is the second year of the Tour de Wish series. This year there will be eight events happening across the state in celebration of Wyoming wishes.
