Lady Cats struggle with tough games

The Lady Cats volleyball team fell short against Lovell and Shoshoni this week, ending a string of successes that lasted almost two weeks prior to Saturday's Homecoming game against Shoshoni.

"It was a rough week for us," said coach Shannon Hill. On Thursday's loss against Lovell, Hill said. "We couldn't get anything going at the net. Our defense played well but we just couldn't put the ball where we needed to."

The Lady Cats, who lost in straight sets, "had some great rallies," but ended up losing the big points. During Thursday's away match, Maggie Ryan and Lizzy Lofink led the team with 19 and 17 digs respectively.

Saturday's Homecoming against Shoshoni saw the Lady Cats and Lady Blue neck-and-neck in a crucial second set after losing the first. The Lady Cats would eventually drop the second 23-25 and lose momentum heading into the third, which they also lost.

"Shoshoni is a very tough team this year as they have very good hitters all throughout their offense," said Hill. "In the third we were right with them until a certain rotation and we let them go on some big runs and could never catch back up."

Although it is disappointing to drop two games in a row, Hill added that she is "very confident my team will bounce back from these losses and get back to where we need to be by Friday," when the Lady Cats travel to Riverside. The team will then travel on Saturday to Greybull before hosting Rocky Mountain at home next Saturday.
