Velma Johnston

Velma May Johnston, 89, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015, in Billings, Mont.

Velma was born April 27, 1926, at the Kershner Homestead in Shell, Wyo. to Irvin and Maude (Kershner) Davis. Velma graduated from Greybull High School.

Velma met and married Robert L. Johnston on August 27, 1947. They moved to Thermopolis, Wyo. in 1947.

Velma ran the soda fountain in the Corner Drug Store and The Ice Cream Parlor for a number of years and worked at the high school cafeteria for a short time. She was known by everyone for her pies she made. She was the treasurer and member of the VFW Auxiliary for several years. Velma loved her flowers, gardening, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-granddaughter.

Velma is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Maude Davis; her husband, Robert Johnston; her son, Paul Johnston; her grandson, Bob Johnston; her brother, Irvie Davis; and her sister-in-law, Trina Davis.

Velma is survived by her son, Tim (Kathy Williams) Johnston of Worden, Mont.; daughter, Janet (David) Currey of Billings, Mont.; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Johnston of Cody, Wyo.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mount View Cemetery in Basin, Wyo. with Pastor Kent Dempsey officiating. Burial will take place after the service.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
