Spinster's Delight fiber day

Guest artists from England, Maryland and Wyoming, will be featured at the Spinster’s Delight, an all-day fiber event, July 6, in Thermopolis.

A needle-felting workshop featuring petroglyph site symbols, will be held from 1-4:30 p.m., with Nancy Jones from Riverton. Jones has been needle-felting for 10 years and is a member of the Fremont Fiber Guild. She is known for her intricate designs and has taught classes at the Lander Art Center and Central Wyoming College. The workshop will be held at Buffalo Creek Lodge, 307 Buffalo Creek Road. Workshop fee is $35 and includes a kit with needle and a felted mat backing from Lucy’s Sheep Camp.

Anyone interested may join the group for a trip to Legend Rock petroglyph site at 9 a.m. They will meet at Lucy’s Sheep Camp (8 miles north on Highway 120) and leave for Legend Rock about 9:30 a.m.

An evening program on Rare English Sheep and wool and spinning demonstration will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Library. Guest demonstrators are Susan Withnell, Ewes-ful Fiber Arts, Westminster, Maryland; Sandie Davison, Yorkshire Woollybacks, president of the York and District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, England; and Beryl Thompson, England, award-winning judge and rare sheep breeder for 48 years. Both Davison and Thompson are award-winning long-time breeders of rare sheep and highly respected rare sheep judges in England.

The program is open to the public without charge. They will have samples of nearly 40 breeds of sheep, plus angora rabbit fur from Withnell’s farm.

A very limited number of fiber sample packs will be available for purchase, including wools from sheep, such as Portland, Hebridean and Manx. She will also have a limited amount of angora rabbit fiber from her herd and wool/angora roving.
