On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Tuesday, May 5

9:51 a.m. Deputies received a call about a truck leaving property on the north fork of Owl Creek. The property had been broken into during the summer months and the vehicle looked suspicious. When deputies arrived, the vehicle was no longer there.

8:16 p.m. A deer versus a vehicle accident occurred at mile marker 137 on Highway 20 North. The vehicle sustained more than $1,000 worth of damage. There were no human injuries, but the deer had to be killed because of its injuries.

Thursday, May 7

7:44 a.m. A search warrant was issued on a home in the 500 block of Clark.

Jacky Lin Wurtz, 47, was cited for possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

Karl Wurtz, 56, was cited for possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

9 a.m. The Sheriff’s office received a report of a damaged power line that fed an irrigation pump on East River Road. The power line appears to have been shot through, but deputies believe the damage may have occurred on accident by a duck or bird hunter. Repairs are being made.

Saturday, May 9

9:32 p.m. Deputies received a report of a possible drunk driver headed to Hot Springs County from Park County. The driver was not found in Hot Springs County.

Sunday, May 10

9:03 a.m. Deputies responded to a possible danger on Highway 20 North at mile marker 250. There were large parts of a tree on the highway. A deputy removed most of debris from the highway so that traffic could drive through.

Monday, May 11

1:53 p.m. The Department of Family Services reported getting threatening phone calls. The calls were coming from a Casper phone number. A deputy provided the phone number to Casper police and the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office was asked to make a welfare check on the caller’s address.

7:07 p.m. A call came in about a pickup truck with hay loaded in the back that was broken down near the Fountain of Youth. A deputy responded to the call.

Police calls

Tuesday, May 5

7:30 a.m. Someone reported a minor accident in a parking lot. When they opened their door, someone pulling into the parking spot next to them hit their ajar door.

12:46 p.m. A dog jumped the fence of it’s owner, and was reported as vicious. The owner was contacted and they are making preparations to keep the dog indoors.

12:51 An abandoned vehicle was stickered and towed.

1:56 p.m. Police responded to a family fight. No one was arrested, but the female was referred to the H.O.P.E. Agency.

2:37 p.m. Police received a call about a suspicious person in the state park. A man in the park was not letting patrons leave. When officers arrived, the man was gone.

2:54 p.m. Peddlers were trying to sell items. The people were gone by the time an officer arrived.

9:01 p.m. A noise complaint was made to police. A car was playing loud rap music. When an officer arrived the vehicle was gone.

Wednesday, May 6

2:56 p.m. A male subject approached two juveniles, which was in violation of his court order. The incident has been referred to the court.

4:07 p.m. Police received a report about a fight happening in a vehicle.

Charles Robbins, 44, was arrested for domestic violence, breach of peace and interference with a police officer.

Thursday, May 7

4:20 p.m. Police received an alert about an alarm from a private alarm company. It was a false alarm from Hot Springs County Arkansas. The alarm company accidentally alerted local officials.

Friday, May 8

3:25 p.m. Grade school children contacted police because they wanted a restraining order filed against another student. The students were advised to speak with their parents.

11:28 p.m. Possible entry was made into a home. No one was found. Nothing was reported as missing.

Saturday, May 9

10:02 a.m. A large rock was seen on the railroad. BNSF was alerted.

7:21 p.m. An employee at a local business thought someone was doing drugs in the bathroom. There was no evidence to support that claim.

Sunday, May 10

6:11 a.m. Police received a 911 call. It was made on accident as the caller’s phone dialed while they were sleeping.

4:57 P.M. An elderly man was reported missing. The man was immediately located by his neighbor.

7:01 p.m. A fight was reported at a local motel. No physical confrontation had taken place.

9:39 p.m. Police received a call about a disagreement between a couple. The couple agreed to leave each other alone and go to bed.

Monday, May 11

8:48 a.m. James Chandler, 44, was arrested on a Natrona County warrant.

4:07 p.m. Individuals from California were trying to peddle stones. They did not have a peddlers permit and were asked to leave.

Circuit Court

Gary Jerome Antelope was given a $5,000 cash bond following his arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Charles Robbins was given a $2,500 cash bond following his arrest for domestic abuse and interference with a police officer.

Canyon dangers

Even though work has been done in Wind River Canyon, the Sheriff’s office is warning drivers to be cautions when driving through the canyon. Recent heavy rainfall has loosened many rocks and the potential for rocks to be on the road is high.

Scam

A man came to the Law Enforcement Center to report a possible scam. His phone had been locked, and had an image that said until the person paid the FBI $500, their phone would stay locked. The man was told to take his phone to Verizon Wireless to have the phone fixed.

Birth

Piper Elaine Reynolds was born Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Mandi Reynolds of Thermopolis.

She weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

Grandparents are Elaine Reynolds and Roger Winsor of Thermopolis. Great-grandparents are Bud & Tudy Weaver of Thermopolis.
