Karen McLean

December 16, 1948 - April 14, 2015

Karen Joy McLean, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at her residence after a period of declining health.

 Born December 16, 1948, in Langdon, N. D., she was one of five children born to Stewart and Clara (Lund) MacArthur. She graduated from Munich High School in North Dakota in 1966. Following school she lived in California with her sister where she worked for a phone company until moving to Cheyenne. From 1968-1978 she was employed with the Mountain Bell Company as a phone operator.

 On February 17, 1979, she married William E. "Bill" McLean. The couple came to Thermopolis in 1981. In 1985 Karen became a paraprofessional in the Hot Springs County School District serving as a teacher's aid for 22 years.

 Karen was a caring, hospitable woman who had a sense of humor, enjoyed nurturing children and making crafts. She was a phenomenal cook, enjoyed traveling and was a fan of both local and college sports. Karen loved to keep in touch with her friends and family through writing letters, talking on the phone, or sending sentimental cards throughout the year. Her family was truly here "pride and joy".

 She is survived by her husband of 36 years; sons, William Cody McLean of Casper and Dustin Drew (Ashle) McLean of Thermopolis; grandchildren, Cameron Igou, Cade, Dawson, and Daxton McLean; brother, Stuart (Colette) MacArthur of Bullhead City, Ariz .; and sisters, Clara (Herb) Seaver of Larimore, N.D. and Susan Westphal of Munich, N.D.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marlys Larson; and brother-in-law, Edgar Westphal.

 Funeral services were held Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Community Federated Church in Thermopolis with Reverend Chuck Cooper officiating. Burial followed at Monument Hill Cemetery.
