    Hot Springs County High School's speech and debate team started their varsity season off with a bang, bringing home first place in 1A2A at the Kelly Walsh Tournament in Casper last weekend. The Cats garnered 27 points during the meet, far surpassing the second place team, Saratoga, who scored just nine points and third place, Kemmerer, who managed two points.   • Speech competes at Cheyenne

    The Hot Springs County High School speech and debate team traveled to Cheyenne last weekend for the Cheyenne East Holiday Classic Tournament to start out their season. The Holiday Classic is one of the largest tournaments in the state with 1,000 participants representing 28 schools from both Wyoming and Colorado. Senior Breeze Petty worked her way through the competition to break into Super Congress, the top 16 at the tournament. Petty competed last summer in student congress at the National Tournament and is continuing her run as a legislator...

    Thermopolis Middle School girls basketball teams finished off their seasons this last weekend with the seventh grade team taking on Worland at home and the eighth grade team on the road to Worland to take on Cody and Burlington. The 7A girls fought hard against Worland on Friday but just couldn’t get there, losing 13-25.     The Hot Springs County High School Drama Club recently participated in the Wyoming State Thespian Festival (previously named Wyoming State Drama Competition) and returned as State Champions in 1A/2A for the second year in a row. Twenty-four students went to the festival and were entered into 15 different categories. They brought home 18 AllState Medals and 11 Honorable Mention Certificates.     Hot Springs County High School’s Robotics teams recently competed at the Helena, Montana State Qualifier Tournament. According to coach London Jenks, Team 4273 ended the qualifier matches in fourth place with a 4-1 record. Team 7283 ended their qualifiers in ninth place with a 4-1 record. Team 4273 competed in the semi-finals on the third place alliance and finished their day there.     Two Hot Springs County High School seniors applied to the National College Match program through QuestBridge over the summer, Hannah Hu and Breeze Petty. The two applied to their top 12 college choices with the chance to receive full ride scholarships to one of the premier educational facilities in the U.S. High school counselor Elisa Daniels said this is the first time any of our students have applied to the program.   • Speech team opens season in Worland

    Hot Springs County High School’s Speech and Debate team started their season off very early with a trip to the Worland Novice Tournament on Saturday. According to coach Cindy Glasson, a novice-only tournament gives the newest members of the team a chance to see what everything is all about without the pressure of a major tournament. “Since these are all novices they can come in and compete on their own level first thing,” she said. “Its very hard to just toss them into a full varsity tournament in January without getting their feet wet first....

    The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) encourages Wyoming students in grades 3-9 to enter a poster contest aimed at increasing awareness about radon and radon testing. “We know there is a lot of creativity out there among Wyoming youth.     The Hot Springs County High School’s Bobcat Marching Band has been working toward one goal for the past couple of months, a good showing at the State Marching Band Competition.
