Seven Special Olympics 'Olympians' traveled to the fall Area 1 games in Lander the end of September and came home with plenty of medals. This year marks the fifth that the school is providing the service. Secretary Brenda Cornwell said the leaf raking is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27. Hot Springs County residents are urged to apply to serve on the Natural Resources Planning Committee. There are three openings on the committee with terms that end in 2021. Please walk your dog on a leash in parks in town that have signs that state “Dogs on leash.” Why? Why have a dog on a leash? Because some of us who are disabled and do not want dog problems can be at a city park too and have “peace” without dogs harassing us or scaring us, or stepping in dog “doo doo.” You get the picture! This week, I want to touch on how we are all tied together. Roughly 85 percent of school budgets consist of staffing costs. In education it is simple, we need staff to educate our students. Bessie Dowdy, 93, passed away October 3, 2017, at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Bessie Narcissa was born to Vern and Grace (Peckham) Hagans on May 10, 1924, in Lander, Wyo. In 1938, the family moved to Fort Lupton, Colo., where she graduated high school in May of 1942. Bessie married Nathan Brown and moved to Grass Creek, Wyo. Two children, Ron and Shirley, were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Bessie moved to Colorado and reestablished a childhood friendship with...
Mary Jean Waldorf, 94, passed away October 3, 2017, at Wyoming Hospice Center in Casper, Wyo., surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 4, 1923, in Basin, Wyo., to Sylvester and Mary Talbot McKone. She moved to Thermopolis when she was a junior in high school and met the love of her life Jimmy Waldorf.
