    Seventeen candidates have tossed their hats in the ring to fill just five positions for the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital District Directors, to be elected upon district formation approval in the general election . Two positions are open to fill four-year terms. Those candidates include Bill Williams, Dean Stone, Joseph Casciato, Bradyn Harvey, David Koerwitz, Josh Conrad, Allan Braaten and Jim Wilson.     Tuesday evening, the Thermopolis Town Council approved the second reading of an ordinance regarding fees for construction and demolition trash and the disposal of tires. Prior to approving the second reading, the resolution was amended to include language stating an appropriate permit must be paid for in advance.   • Oktobrewfest hits downtown Saturday

    Main Street Thermopolis will be putting on Oktobrewfest in downtown Thermopolis 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. Shorty’s Liquor will provide 16 different beers along with two kegs — one with Bud Light, one with Coors Light. The microbrews will come from Ten Sleep, Red Lodge and possibly other locations.     On Sunday at 9:48 a.m., the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department was called out to respond to a grass fire near mile marker 8 on Highway 120. The wind driven fire involved 18 acres, along with multiple structures and equipment. The department responded with four wild land engines, two water tenders, a structure engine and 18 personnel.     Dorothy Lee Dorman, 92, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center. Born June 24, 1924, in Enid, Okla., she was one of eight children of John and Christina (Parizek) Semrad. On December 26, 1940, she married Calvin “Bud” Dorman in Sayre, Okla. The couple farmed in Texas and Oklahoma. They moved to Mangum, Okla., where they owned and operated the ambulance service and Western Auto Store in addition to farming.     Saturday night's Friends of NRA banquet grossed nearly $40,000. Net proceeds from the event will remain in Wyoming to be awarded as grants for local gun clubs, 4-H shooting clubs, and other organizations that support and encourage safe firearm use.     This week, the draft Region 6 multi-hazard disaster mitigation plan is being reviewed at the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security. A public comment period on the draft was conducted Aug. 30-Sept. 7.     Local resident, Shawn Goodman, 42, was seriously injured in a work related accident in the Big Horn Mountains on September 14. At 8:45 a.m., Goodman was cutting trees to be shipped to Oregon for a log home when one of the trees fell on him, breaking both femurs at the hip. A fellow worker from Shoshoni, Jason Kinnigy, has been commended for saving Goodman’s life, getting him as comfortable as possible before going for help.     In August, Thermopolis Town Council officially passed Ordinance 843. The ordinance, which took effect Sept. 1, outlines opening and closing times for municipal parks.
