  • Individuals, team inducted into Bobcat Hall of Fame

    Friday night, the Bobcat Hall of Fame grew by four individuals, as well as the 2002 girls basketball team, at the 2017 induction ceremony in the high school commons. The individuals inducted include Kelsey Redland Tobin, a 2009 graduate. Tobin was a multi-sport letter winner for the Bobcats. She earned one letter in golf, one letter in cross country, three letters in volleyball, four letters in basketball, and four letters in track & field.     At the Wyoming State Shoot in Douglas July 6-9, the last award given out was the 4-H Forever Wild Award, provided by the Skyler Gabel Group and won by Lexi Overfield, daughter of Heath and Bobbi Overfield.     Those looking to test their skills in rounding up swine can register for the pig wrestling completion Aug. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. There are four divisions for the competition — Youth (ages 8 and under), Junior (ages 9-15), Women and Men (16 and older for each). Teams can be up to four people, with spots available on a “first come, first serve” basis for 10 teams in each division. There is a $50 fee, though that fee goes up to $65 after July 25.   • Golf tourney raises more than $13,000

    The Smokin’ Waters Golf Tournament was held July 14-15, along with a Night Golf Tournament hosted by the high school golf program. Nine teams followed the glow sticks along the course at the night tourney and tried their hand at hitting glow in the dark golf balls that would eventually find their way into a 6” hole that was silhouetted by glow sticks in the holes.     A group of seven students has been competing the past two years in the realm of clay target shooting sports. Known as the Thermopolis Clay Cutters Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), these students have attended five SCTP shoots this year with the Wyoming State Shoot in Cody left to go, sometime in August.   • New for the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival

    The Wyoming Arts Council has gathered a group of master artists and their apprentices to demonstrate their craft or perform at the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival, taking place in Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis on August 5 and 6. Demonstrators will be in the large Folk Masters tent on the grounds and the performers will be on the pavilion and Story Circle stages.
