  • Fireworks could be in Thermopolis future

    The Thermopolis Town Council passed an ordinance on first reading that would allow for the sale of fireworks in town during designated times. According to the ordinance currently being reviewed, sale of fireworks would be allowed by a licensed retailer for no more than 14 consecutive days around the time of the 4th of July holiday and for no more than seven consecutive days during the New Years holiday.     The Hot Springs State Park Master Plan Steering Committee met last week to discuss the future of Hot Springs State Park. State parks officials say even though great progress has been made, nothing definitive has been done. "These aren't even draft plans yet, these are concepts," state parks spokesman Todd Thibodeau said.     Hot Spring County’s unemployment rate slightly increased between January and February 2015, based on information from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. From January to February of this year, unemployment in the county has increased from 4.5 percent to 4.6 percent. Comparatively, from February 2014 to February of this year, unemployment in the county has decreased from 5 percent to 4.6 percent.     We want to express our appreciation of the Rural Medical Care Transition Program provided through the hospital. The program is offered statewide and is designed to reduce hospital costs by assisting patients who are 65 years and older with one of ten qualifying diagnoses and by reducing re-hospitalization of those patients. According to head coach Ernie Mecca, they got a few more automatic qualifiers for the State meet along with more personal records in spite of cold, windy conditions.     While March in Thermopolis usually resembles winter more than spring, this years temperatures were higher than the average. According to Chris Jones with the National Weather Service the average temperature for March this year was 43.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature is 40.2 degrees during the month of March.
