    According to the law incident media summary report, there has already been over 200 calls in 2018 responded to by police, sheriff’s office, fire department and emergency personnel. In 2018, Thermopolis Police Department responded to a total 2,148 calls.     The application deadline for the current Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is quickly approaching. Applications will be accepted through February 28, 2018. The sooner you apply, the sooner help is available for rising heating costs.   • Safety encouraged on the ice

    According to information from Boysen State Park, three fisherman in a Polaris Razor went through the ice at Boysen State Park recently. They were able to walk back to the camp and retrieve the vehicle the next day. Boysen Superintendent, John Bass, said the vehicle went through on a pressure ridge, an area where two ice formations come together and some of the ice gets pushed upward.   • Unemployment rate drops

    Unemployment rates in the State of Wyoming fell to 4.2 percent in December, a significant drop from 4.8 percent in December of 2016. While the rate decreased, it is still slightly higher than the national average of 4.1 percent. In Hot Springs County, unemployment dropped .3 percent in December, going from 3.7 percent in November to 3.4 percent in December. There was a significant drop, .9 percent, from December of 2016 to 2017, however, 30 people left the workforce, making the drop look less significant. Eight people left the workforce from...

    Josh Schmidt, a former U.S. Marine and veterans service officer from the Wyoming Veterans Commission, will conduct community outreach services in Wyoming cities through February, with two stops in Thermopolis this month.
