    At some point during the last year, nearly everyone has heard about the water issues in Flint, Michigan. The contamination levels in their water has rendered it undrinkable by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Hot Springs County residents receiving their water through the South Thermopolis Water and Sewer District (STWSD) were recently appraised of a situation with their drinking water that, while not undrinkable, it is above EPA standards for levels of disinfection byproducts.... Full story

    Thermopolis FFA Alumni gathered on Saturday for their annual Harvest Moon Ball at the Hot Springs County fairgrounds.     Friday afternoon, the Big Horn Basin Nature and Discovery Center Joint Powers Board hosted a public forum regarding the Children’s Nature Discovery Area of the center.     Thermopolis will be home to a couple Thanksgiving dinners that are open to the public. The Hot Springs County Senior Center will host a dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, perfection salad and pumpkin pie. There is a suggested donation of $4 for seniors and $9 for non-seniors for the meal. Mavis was born in Whitmore Calif., on August 25, 1919, to Albert and Ivy Elva (Pottle) Gifford. Mavis loved the mountains, made the best pies and was a huge fan of Merle Haggard.     Abraham J. Miller, 83, passed away suddenly on November 13, 2017, at his home in Thermopolis. Abraham was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Wakeeney, Kan., to Edith (Maynard) Miller and Joseph Miller.     The Wyoming Department of Education recently released their school performance report for 2016-17, listing math, reading and science proficiency for each district based on PAWS and WY-ALT tests. Third and fourth graders at Ralph Witters Elementary took the PAWS tests with the following results: Third grade math: 15.22 percent below basic, 26.09 percent basic, 41.30 percent proficient and 17.39 percent advanced.
