Lady Cat golfers take first at Sheridan

The Hot Springs County High School Golf Team traveled to Sheridan Friday, April 12 to play in the Tongue River Spring Invitational. The event was held at the Kendrick Golf Course, which will host the State Tournament this fall. Kendrick is a par 72, 18-hole public course that is fairly unique in its layout, having few bunkers and not a lot of trees. The event served as a good preview of a course many of the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats look forward to playing on in the state tournament.

The Lady Cats registered four players for the event – Lilly Johnson, 105; Maggie Landon, 114; Dazlynn Hunt, 119; and Austin Slagle, 136. The ladies all played well on Friday, and finished the event as the first place girls team.

The Bobcats team was also comprised of four players – Hayden Johnson, 102; Ian Locke, 110; Zerrian Stone, 119; and Marcus Page, 152. Each Bobcat golfer improved their play from the week before.

Coach Brandon Deromedi said, “With the FFA event going on, we were down some players, but that meant some other folks got to compete. Lincoln McPhie finished in second place among the middle school players and that was great to see for him. Everyone improved their scores over last week, and that’s what you look for as the season goes along.”

The golfers are scheduled to compete again in Sheridan this week at the Powder Horn Golf Course. The weather is looking a bit unsettled for later in the week, so the Bobcats and Lady Cats will be looking for a little help from Mother Nature to allow them a chance to play on one of the premier private golf courses in the state.
