On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Aug. 21

2:40 p.m. Agency assist for emergency medical services.

4:57 p.m. A stop sign was found damaged in a hit and run.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

6:53 a.m. Report of a parked truck that was vandalized. The investigation is ongoing.

9:30 a.m. Justyce Mekenzie Tanner-Oneal, 27, was arrested on an alleged hold for probation sanction. The original charges were unlawful entry of an occupied structure and battery, felony status.

1:02 p.m. Deputies assisted a broken-down motorist with a ride to town to get parts to repair their vehicle.

7:40 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.

8:33 p.m. Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. It was found that a child had dialed 911 while playing a video on their parent’s cell phone.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 

5:09 p.m. Agency assist for medical services with a suicidal and intoxicated male. The male was transported to the hospital. 

5:39 p.m. Agency assist for Highway Patrol.

7:35 p.m. Report of a violation of a court order involving a 36-year-old female inmate who was making repeated contact with another outside subject while in jail.

7:38 p.m. Citizen assist for an individual with questions about a protection order.

Friday, Aug. 25

1:42 a.m. Ambulance assist for an unresponsive male.

12:19 p.m. Agency assist for emergency medical services.

12:27 p.m. Deputies responded to a medical alarm. The person was found to be fine and had accidentally hit their medical alarm device. 

1:03 p.m. Darrin Matthew Field, 35, from Worland, was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, open container in a moving vehicle, and not wearing a seat belt.

5:29 p.m. Civil standby for a child custody exchange. 

8:22 p.m. Deputies responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle with the doors opened. After contacting the owner, the vehicle was left intentionally. No items were reported missing from the vehicle. 

11:07 p.m. Deputies attempted to locate a missing hiker on the T-Hill hiking trail. The hiker was able to find their way to the parking lot. 

Saturday, Aug. 26

12:21 p.m. A traffic complaint was called in about a vehicle that had almost struck another vehicle. The vehicle was located and observed, failing to maintain its lane. The 63-year-old driver from Salt Lake City, Utah, was issued a citation for failing to maintain a single lane. 

7:09 p.m. Report of two intoxicated individuals fighting. Upon arrival, no injuries were observed, and no one wanted to pursue charges. An intoxicated male was given a courtesy ride to another address to mediate the situation for the evening. 

5:11 p.m. Civil standby for a child custody exchange.

Police Department

Monday, Aug. 21

2:45 p.m. Fire department and police responded to the 600 block of Clark Street for a report of a vehicle fire. The fire was extinguished without further incident. 

Wednesday, Aug. 23 

5:26 a.m. Citizen assist for a male from Billings, Mont., who was reported to be intoxicated and sleeping on top of a table in the 400 block of South 6th Street. It was determined this male was attempting to catch an early morning ride from a stranger due to flushing his car keys down the toilet at the Gooseberry rest area. The sheriff’s office provided the male a courtesy ride to the rest area after obtaining a new set of car keys. 

5:39 p.m. Agency assist for Highway Patrol on a two-vehicle accident at mile marker 10 on Highway 120 for a semi truck versus vehicle crash. One male was transported to the hospital after being ejected out the back window. The accident is currently being investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol for driving under the influence of alcohol. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed, and the male semi-truck driver left the scene without injury. 

Thursday, Aug. 24

1:22 p.m. Report of a juvenile female runaway who left school grounds without permission. 

9:07 p.m. Report of an injured deer that was struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of South 6th Street. The deer was dispatched and removed.

Friday, Aug. 25

12:44 p.m. A juvenile female was cited for simple assault against a juvenile male in the 200 block of Park Street on Hot Springs County High School grounds. The female was defending a younger family member from being bullied by the male.

2:59 p.m. Report of a 57-year-old male who was making threats and was trespassed in the 100 block of South 6th Street. 

3:17 p.m. Report of a family domestic problem from the Department of Family Services in the 400 block of Big Horn Street.

4:35 p.m. Report of a 51-year-old male who did not pay for his food, only the drink. The male was trespassed from the business in the 500 block of Broadway Street. No citations were given.

Sunday, Aug. 27

10:33 a.m. Report of damaged taillights on a flatbed trailer in the 500 block of North 5th Street.

8:10 p.m. Citizen assist for a critical incident training subject in the 200 block of South 6th Street.

Circuit Court

Jimmy P. Schwalbe, driving while under the influence of alcohol and controlled substance combo, first offense within 10 years, 90 days jail, 86 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Troy A, Richardson, driving while under the influence of alcohol, incapable of safely driving, first offense within 10 years, 30 days jail, 26 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Matthew Mortimore, driving while under the influence of alcohol, equal to or greater than .08%, first offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 176 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $420.

Darren M. Field, driving while under the influence of alcohol, equal to or greater than .08%, second offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 173 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $420.

Brittni Asay, breach of peace, 30 days jail, 30 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $470.

Births

Fisher Corpening was born at 10:22 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Hot Springs Health to Kylie and Shane Corpening.

He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 18.25 inches long.

Grandparents are Mike and Jen Stevens and Greg and Janelle Corpening.

Michael Mariner was born at 2:14 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Hot Springs Health to Crystal Wilson and Michael Mariner.

He weighed 9 pounds, 1 oz and was 22 inches long.
