Roger Evans

Roger Evans, 79, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at his residence in Thermopolis, Wyo.

The only child of Art and Lucille (Bumgarner) Evans, he was born in Denver, Colo., December 14, 1943. He grew up in Omaha, Neb., graduating from North High School. From 1962 to 1965 he was enlisted and served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne. Roger's service to his country was a point of pride and honor throughout the entirety of his life.

On June 1, 1968, he married Maureen TePaske in Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa and later attended Drake Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor. After law school Roger and Maureen moved to Sioux Center where he practiced law at the TePaske and Evans Law Firm for 35 years. Roger and Maureen had three children, Ryan, Stacie, and Matt, who they raised in Sioux Center.

Roger, like his father-in-law, Maurice TePaske, was dedicated to the betterment of the town of Sioux Center and spent much of his time ensuring the community would remain vibrant for decades to come. While in Sioux Center, he served as City Attorney for several years, chairman of the Sioux Center Arts and Recreation committee, board of First National Bank, among many other varied roles in the community. 

Following retirement, Roger and Maureen relocated to Thermopolis, Wyo., where Roger followed his life long dream of being a rancher and cowboy as the owner and operator of the Tie Down Ranch. In addition to ranching, he enjoyed many other activities and hobbies such as hunting, shooting, horses, travel, and spending as much time with loved ones as possible. Roger was a member of Community Federated Church in Thermopolis.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen, of 55 years; children, Ryan Evans (Melinda) of Monticello, Iowa, Matt Evans (Jaclyn) of Parker, Colo., and Stacie Bingham (Clay) of Laramie, Wyo .; grandchildren, Alex McElmeel, Reese Evans, Riley Evans, Aedan Bingham, Haley McElmeel, Declan Bingham, Logan Evans, Cora Evans, Lillian Bingham, Eli Evans, and Reagan Evans; and his golden retriever, Tye.

The family will plan a celebration of life at a date to be determined.
