On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Feb. 20

10:21 a.m. Report of a 911 hang-up. A deputy responded to the area and found that everyone was okay. 

2:47 p.m. Arik Arlo Amundson, 30, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense, and open container.

1:48 p.m. Report of a sexual assault. The case is under investigation. 

Tuesday, Feb. 21

10:05 a.m. Orion Ethan Bell, 20, from Ethete, was arrested for alleged bond revocation. The original charges were for possession of marijuana. 

12:56 p.m. Isaiah Yazzie, 24, from Arapahoe, was arrested for alleged failure to appear.

2:58 p.m. Eric Jerome Armstrong, 43, from Riverton, was arrested for allegedly driving while his license was suspended, second offense.  

4:16 p.m. Report of a student loan that was opened against a person without their consent. This appears to be a tactic used to fraudulently obtain a loan against another person. Further investigation to follow. 

Thursday, Feb. 23

11:11 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Services on a home check. The elderly female was OK.

4:39 p.m. Report of a juvenile using nicotine products on school property. A vape was found on a school bus. Approximately 10 juveniles may have been involved. A juvenile male was cited for minor in possession of tobacco. 

9:34 p.m. Neil James Strickland, 38, was arrested for alleged criminal trespass, interference with a peace officer, and bond violation. 

8:20 p.m. Report of a vehicle that was broken down on mile marker 136 on Highway 20 North. The vehicle was tagged, and the owner towed it away later.

Sunday, Feb. 26

2:57 p.m. Report of failure to register as a sex offender involving a 37-year-old male who was allegedly not living where he was supposed to be. He was allegedly living at his place of work.

4:28 p.m. Justyce Tanner-Oneal, 26, was arrested on a probation revocation warrant and alleged unlawful entry into an occupied structure and committed battery or domestic battery felony status.

Police Department

Monday, Feb. 20

4:46 p.m. Report of damage to an elderly female’s mailbox on Warren Street from kids on a sled. The neighbors confirmed that two juvenile males in an industrial size black sled made to go behind a four-wheeler, were repetitively crashing into their yards. The identity of these male juveniles is currently unknown. 

2:47 p.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

9:17 a.m. Report of a male residential occupant that had junk strewn throughout his entire front yard and back yard as well as along the alleyway. Police attempted to make contact with the male regarding the removal of the junk, but the male would not answer. This case is under investigation. 

1:28 p.m. A gas station employee located drug paraphernalia.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

9:35 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Services on a welfare check on an infant. It went without incident and the child was OK.

11:08 a.m. A traffic accident occurred within the parking lot of a local business. A male driver left his vehicle running while he went into the business. One of the male’s dogs that were left in the vehicle knocked the gear shift out of gear, causing the vehicle to collide with the driver side of another vehicle. No one (or animal) was injured during this crash. There were no citations.

Thursday, Feb. 23

2:05 p.m. A female contacted law enforcement to assist her in unloading a firearm belonging to a male she had just removed from her residence and wanted trespassed. Upon making contact, the gun was safely unloaded. While in police possession, it was identified as a stolen firearm. The firearm was connected to an active case from a local resident of Hot Springs County. This investigation into the alleged theft is still active at this time. 

3:18 p.m. A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of South 6th Street for a truck driving recklessly. The 23-year-old male driver was provided a citation for exhibition of acceleration. 

9:34 p.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office.

Friday, Feb. 24

7:49 a.m. Arthur Wade Grieve, 64,  was arrested on a local bench warrant in the 300 block of Broadway Street for failing to appear on his original court date. 

2:40 p.m. Report of a traffic accident between two vehicles in the 500 block of Broadway Street. A female was allegedly pulling into a parking space when her vehicle was struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle behind her was unable to stop, causing the truck to hit the female’s driver’s side door. Statements were taken and a crash report will be created. 

9:26 p.m. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Senior Ave. on a vehicle for speeding and subsequently cited two juvenile males, for Minors in Possession of Tobacco.
